Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Nomination Open Now

The Vodafone Ghana Music Award Board today had a press conference to officially outdoor the Award and give out the technicalities and the categories.

This year, with the new Executives of Musiga and new sponsors, Vodafone, the Award Scheme has seen a lot of major changes to deal with past abnormalies in recent event.

The total number of categories this year is 29 with 15 public voting categories, 12 industry voting categories and 2 honourary categories. The new categories this year are; Gospel Album of The Year , Group of The Year and Sound Engineer of the Year.

To be eligible to be included in the nominations the work must have been released between 1st December 2010 and 31st December 2011. The Board is maintaining the 3-tier voting method – Public Voting, VGMA Academy (formerly Selection Board) and VGMA Board (formerly Planning). For the 15 public categories, the public has been given more power with 40%, VGMA Board, 30 and the VGMA Academy 30%. The 12 Industry categories are been decided by the VGMA Board 50% and VGMA Academy 50%. The Honourary categories are fully decided by the VGMA Board.

However, for specialised categories like Sound Engineer, Music Video and Producer, the VGMA Board and specialist in the categories are sharing the votes equally. The Most Popular Song Of the Year will be voted for by the public ONLY.

A major change to the voting medium is that there shall be only 20 votes per registered mobile number in Ghana to a shortcode number.

One mediaman asked why Azonto was not included in the categories and it was pointed out that Azonto is a dance form.
