Whitney Houston’s final recording has been released, a day after the late diva was honored with the Billboard Millennium Award. “Celebrate,” which premiered on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, is a duet from the film “Sparkle,” a remake of the 1976 movie musical. Houston sings the jubilant up-tempo tune, produced by R.Kelly, with her onscreen daughter Jordin Sparks.
The “American Idol” winner performed “I Will Always Love You” in honor of Houston, whom she has remembered as “kind” and “so hilarious,” at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards. It’s almost painful to hear Houston, who died in February, belt out “Celebrate,” especially considering the high number of deaths the music world has endured this year.
When “Sparkle” hits theaters in August, it’s sure to be a bittersweet experience for anyone who loved Houston and who will always wonder about the comeback cut short.
